Nita M. Lawry 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant

This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local academic standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.

Specific Services

Authorized under Title IV, Part B, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015, the purpose of Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC Programs is to provide federal funds to establish or expand community learning centers that operate during out-of-school hours providing three specific services: intentional academic support, quality enrichment experiences, and family engagement opportunities.

Academic

Champions Academy is dedicated to helping students excel academically by providing intentional support focused on key areas of learning. Our program prioritizes math and reading instruction aligned with North Carolina educational standards, ensuring that each student receives the guidance needed to succeed. We offer comprehensive homework help, one-on-one tutoring, and remediation support to address individual learning gaps. At Champions Academy, we are committed to fostering a strong academic foundation that prepares students for future success.

Enrichment

At Champions Academy, we believe in nurturing well-rounded students through our dynamic enrichment program. Our engaging activities may include art, music, dance, healthy eating, physical education, and much more, offering every student the opportunity to explore their interests and develop new skills. By providing a diverse range of experiences, Champions Academy ensures that each child is inspired, active, and equipped with the tools to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Parent Engagement

Champions Academy values the crucial role parents play in their children's education. We offer meaningful parent engagement opportunities designed to deepen families' understanding of how consistent school-day attendance directly impacts future student success. Our program provides training on age-appropriate strategies and resources to support positive academic behaviors and social-emotional well-being. Additionally, we equip parents with the skills and knowledge needed to foster their children's literacy and overall educational development, ensuring they are active partners in their students' academic journey.
